Alltech’s Solvent Recycler 3000 potentially reduces
solvent use by more than 90%. It also helps you comply
with regulatory and quality guidelines with a Validation
Output that records the Recycler’s function. And, the
optional Solvent Recycler 3000’s AutoClean Accessory
reduces maintenance and down-time by automatically
rinsing and re-equilibrating your HPLC system.
During an isocratic HPLC analysis, the vast majority
of the solvent leaving the detector is clean mobile phase
eluting between peaks. Only those portions containing
sample components (peaks) are actually contaminated.
The Solvent Recycler 3000 throws away only the
contaminated waste and returns the clean mobile phase
to your reservoir. You purchase less solvent, spend less
time preparing mobile phase, and dispose of less waste.
In most cases, the Solvent Recycler 3000 will save you
more than four times its purchase price every year you
use it!
How It Works
The recycling function is accomplished with a Recycle
Valve installed downstream from the detector (Figure 1).
A Control Module uses the detector signal to identify
contaminated mobile phase. When peaks are eluting,
detector effluent goes to waste. Between peaks, clean
mobile phase is sent back to the reservoir (Figure 2).
User selectable parameters allow you to customize
operation to your system and methods. You choose the
minimum threshold which will divert flow to waste, as
well as a delay time to allow the detector outlet line
to be thoroughly flushed before returning flow to your
mobile phase reservoir.
Validation Output
The Model 3000 Solvent Recycler features a Validation
Output to help you comply with regulatory, GMP, GLP,
or ISO-9000 requirements. The Validation Output sends
an auditable data trail to any standard recording device,
giving you a continuous documentation of Recycler
operation. This operational record is a copy of your
chromatographic signal with “waste” and “recycle” tick
marks superimposed at the point of valve switching
(Figure 3). The validation signal is separate from the
one used by the integrator or data system, maintaining
the integrity of your analytical results.
AutoClean Accessory
An optional AutoClean Valve saves even more money
by automatically cleaning the HPLC system at the end
of an analysis. Damaging buffers and strongly retained
impurities are removed extending column, pump seal,
and check-valve lifetimes. By controlling the cleaning
function through the recycler, all wash solvents are
automatically diverted to waste, guaranteeing mobilephase
purity.
The AutoClean Valve is installed on your pump’s
inlet line. At the end of an analysis, your autosampler
or system controller signals AutoClean to deliver
wash solvent to the pump. You choose whether to reequilibrate
with mobile phase and/or shut down the
pump. Purchase AutoClean when you buy the Solvent
Recycler 3000, or add it later as your needs expand.
