high achievement.
Faculty
If you have an outstanding professor and
want to recognize them for their work inside and

Graduate Student Teaching
Awards
Each year, students and course instructors
are able to recognize outstanding graduate
student TA’s by nominating them for a Graduate
Student Teaching Award. Recipients are selected
by committee, based on the results of standard
evaluations and written comments provided by

Looking for a unique scholarly experience?
Hoping to be involved with university research
before graduate school? Our Scholar’s Electives
program is designed for high-achieving, selfdirected
students interested in pursuing an
interdisciplinary academic experience.
Being a Scholar’s electives student gives you
the ability to create a module theme such as
multiculturalism or bioethics. Prospective
students must submit a supplementary
application form to the Scholar’s Elective
program by March 1, 2011. Please note that
this option is not available to current students.
Upper year students who wish to discuss this
program should contact the program office
directly. This program is run through The
Student Success Centre.

High achieving students entering first
year can participate in Western’s “honors
society” known as Western Scholars, offered
by The Student Success Centre. As a Western
Scholar, you can participate in service
learning initiatives throughout the University
and London community, special events and
extra–curricular activities throughout the
year. You will have excellent opportunities to
connect with Associate Deans, professors and
social and cultural leaders by being part of this
society. To be eligible, you must be entering
Western as a full-time student with a final high
school admission average of at least 90 per cent.
To retain the Western Scholars designation, you
must achieve a sessional average at Western of
at least 80 per cent with no mark less than 65
per cent with a full course load. This program is
open to students in all undergraduate programs.

Graduating Awards and
Medals

Gold medals are awarded to the top
graduating students at Spring Convocation by
the Dean’s Office in each Faculty. A gold medal
is awarded to the top student in each Honors
Specialization module and in each Major of an
Honors Double Major. In addition, one gold
medal is given to the top student in a 3 year
Bachelor degree and a 4 Year Bachelor degree
for a Specialization and a Major module.
