Unfortunately 2012 ended miserably for me personally and 2013 was a
dark year where as a family we suffered a huge loss – as we came to the
end of the year I was determined to push on and at the same time I
downloaded a Mi-Soul radio show by Matt Jam and was shocked to hear
him playing new music with the kind of vibe that got me in to H’n’G – I
was hooked and I knew exactly where I was heading, straight to the LAB!
My first few 4x4 tracks of 2014 were well received and while I was
knocking stuff up at 124bpm everybody was pitching them up to include
them in their UKG sets – I believe in supply and demand and started to
raise the tempo and decided that I’d like to share my music with as many
people as possible – so with this in mind I created the filthy boots series
which is nearing the release of volume 10 (which will also see the rerelease
of a remixed filthy 1) and from this series came the opportunity to
put together official mixes for CR2 records for artists such as Moon Boots,
Jumpstar, Ron Carroll and let’s not forget my fellow Nu Skool producers
DJ Junior, Martin Carr, Elski and Kahniche. I’m currently discussing some
really exciting remix projects with some old skool veterans as well which
if they come together will be wicked.
While knocking up the filthy boots I’ve maintained an output of original
tracks and was approached by Jepadee to put something out on Bumpa
Funk and so the Deeper Love EP was created and it’s follow up which will
feature my latest track “I’ll Give You” will also be released through the
label. But there’s still a tonne of stuff that remains unreleased which will
probably find it’s way on to my upcoming mixtape...
When is the first time you recall music as something you wanted to do in a
serious way?
I fell in to music as something to take seriously in 1998 when was offered
the job at Music Power – I’ve never looked back since!
What is music to you?
My escape – the vibe either in the studio or behind the decks takes me
somewhere that the headaches of everyday life can’t reach me.
