million from the hans werthén scholarship<br />
fund. The money will allow the recipients to<br />
study and conduct research at top universities<br />
around the world.<br />
The fund was established in 1990 by ericsson<br />
and electrolux to honour hans werthén’s<br />
Professor of human ecology was awarded<br />
John and Margaretha Aspegren Scholarship<br />
emin Tengström, professor of human ecology, was awarded the scholarship<br />
for his great commitment to interdisciplinary issues relating to<br />
the development of society. The john and margaretha Aspegren memorial<br />
foundation is based on a donation from john Aspegren and his<br />
wife margaretha. The purpose is to promote greater understanding<br />
between engineering sciences and the humanities. A scholarship of<br />
sek 100,000 is awarded alternate years to an engineer and a humanist.<br />

in engineering/natural sciences or economics/<br />
law/behavioural science, and preferably have<br />

Carl Mannerfelt Prize<br />
for solar technology<br />
An invention that enables sunlight to power<br />
indoor light fittings with the help of fibre optics<br />
won the <strong>2008</strong> carl mannerfelt Prize. The<br />
Prize is awarded by ivA in cooperation with<br />
the world wildlife fund and the confederation<br />
of swedish enterprise. The <strong>2008</strong> recipients<br />
were three engineers and two architects<br />
from the green technology company Parans<br />
solar lighting.<br />
The winning technology has already been<br />
installed in some fifty buildings around the<br />
world.<br />
Medical entrepreneur centre receives support from the<br />
Sten Gustafsson Foundation<br />
A new medical entrepreneurship centre at the university of gothenburg<br />
and an intellectual property rights office received grants from the<br />
sten gustafsson foundation in <strong>2008</strong>. The foundation was established<br />
by Astra and is administered by ivA.<br />
The grants go to Thomas hedner for setting up the medical centre<br />
and to Peter A. jörgensen for establishing the iPR office through the<br />
swedish inventors’ Association.
