issues concerning it, the internet and
telecom development have long been an important
focus for IVA’s activities. IT is of utmost
importance for Sweden’s growth and competitiveness
– this is an assertion that IVA shares
with the Swedish people; in a survey, 9 out of
10 agreed with the statement.
The Internet plays an important role in our
lives. Today, private individuals, companies
and organisations depend on the Internet for
multiple functions, and the need for Internet
infrastructure and services is growing rapidly. In
many respects, Sweden is already at the forefront,
but if we are to maintain this position, it
is essential that we as a nation actively participate
in driving development.
In 2008 IVA managed a number of projects
focusing on this area. Scorecard is currently
assessing how well Sweden is performing in the
IT field. Internet Foresight, concluded in 2008,
worked on the premise that Sweden will be
a leading Internet nation in 2015. To achieve
the project’s goals, the Ambient Sweden programme
was established in 2008. Division XII:
Information Technology, is also helping to spotlight
these issues.
