ABCD Appendix A Summary of Transport Connections Initiatives Department of Human Services Transport Connections Program Government July 2006 The following tables provide an overview of the TCP initiatives from 1 July 2005 to May 31 2006. It details the following information: • TCP Pilot Project undertaking the initiative • name of the initiative • details of the initiative • target group of that initiative. Transport Connections Pilot Project Two Rivers Southern Mallee Name of Initiative Description of initiative Target Group Moyne Health Services volunteer driver recruitment Review and Promotion of Casterton Subsidised Taxi Card Regional Advisory Group Expansion of Casterton – Hamilton Inter-town Service (RS) Subsidisation initiative Commercial enterprise options for rural towns This initiative was undertaken to better allocate resources and induct new volunteers, and review existing education/training needs. A subsidised $2 taxi card was introduced to assist with local transport for those unable to drive or without access to a car. The Regional Advisory Group meets quarterly to discuss transport issues for South West Victoria, and to review progress on projects. The Casterton – Hamilton services is a fixed route service running on school days. An expanded service to include a second bus commenced in February 2006, due to heavy demand from students and general public. This initiative identified three bus services that are only partly subsidised by the State Government. This initiative advocated for the full subsidisation of these services in order for them to continue and service the community. This strategy was developed to provide capacity in small towns to assist in identifying and developing their own transport solutions, including self-funded hire car services. General community interested in volunteering. Casterton community. Local Government Authorities; Private transport operators; DOI and DVA; LLEN; Local PCP; and South West Community Transport Program. Secondary students in Casterton and Coleraine; and General public in Casterton and Coleraine. Residents in Ultima, Lake Boga, Tooleybuc, Piangil, Wood Wood, Beverford, Woorinen and Robinvale, particularly those who do not drive and need to travel to Swan Hill and Mildura. ABCD Transport Connections Pilot Project Getting Around Transport Project Department of Human Services Transport Connections Program Government July 2006 Name of Initiative Description of initiative Target Group Non-emergency transport strategy Pilot V-Line bus services (RS) Information initiative Better use of resources initiative – school buses Early morning train to Bendigo (RS) Gisborne Dial-A-Ride This strategy sets out what is required in order to pilot a flexible door-to-door long distance medical transport service for people living in Ganawarra Shire to free-up paramedics to undertake emergency transport. A new regular pilot transport service is being planned to operate twice weekly between Donald and Horsham. A new service is being planned between Woomelang and Swan Hill. It is anticipated the service will operate once a week. This initiative aimed to increase the community’s knowledge of transport and transport related information across the thirty-townships across the Southern Mallee. Activities included development of information stands in each community that stored transport brochures, regular newsletters, low cost accommodation options and marketing and media material. This initiative was developed to ensure a better allocation of resources, particularly converting school bus services into route bus services, providing additional transport options for isolated communities. The new V/Line train timetable, as a result of this initiative, has an early morning train going to Bendigo – arriving at 8.15am rather than 10.34am. This enables residents around Bendigo to use the train to get to work, school and other services. The aim of the project is to identify and receive funding for the best transport service to meet the needs of Gisborne, and providing a link to the railway station.
