Transport Connections Program
Government
July 2006
Name of Initiative Description of initiative Target Group
Non-emergency transport strategy
Pilot V-Line bus services (RS)
Information initiative
Better use of resources initiative – school buses
Early morning train to Bendigo (RS)
Gisborne Dial-A-Ride
This strategy sets out what is required in order to
pilot a flexible door-to-door long distance medical
transport service for people living in Ganawarra
Shire to free-up paramedics to undertake
emergency transport.
A new regular pilot transport service is being
planned to operate twice weekly between Donald
and Horsham.
A new service is being planned between
Woomelang and Swan Hill. It is anticipated the
service will operate once a week.
This initiative aimed to increase the community’s
knowledge of transport and transport related
information across the thirty-townships across the
Southern Mallee. Activities included development
of information stands in each community that
stored transport brochures, regular newsletters, low
cost accommodation options and marketing and
media material.
This initiative was developed to ensure a better
allocation of resources, particularly converting
school bus services into route bus services,
providing additional transport options for isolated
communities.
The new V/Line train timetable, as a result of this
initiative, has an early morning train going to
Bendigo – arriving at 8.15am rather than 10.34am.
This enables residents around Bendigo to use the
train to get to work, school and other services.
The aim of the project is to identify and receive
funding for the best transport service to meet the
needs of Gisborne, and providing a link to the
railway station.
