Since this column is in a <strong>Health</strong><br />
& <strong>Fitness</strong> <strong>Magazine</strong>, obviously<br />
you the reader are more<br />
than likely reading this column while<br />
working out...maybe on the treadmill,<br />
lifecycle, etc.<br />
Why are you working out, right now,<br />
this very moment, the real answer, not<br />
the appropriate/common sense answer?<br />
Would you believe one of the top reasons<br />
both men and women work out<br />
is because of body image, and fear of<br />
being rejected by those around them?<br />
Many women would prefer to call in<br />
sick at their place of employment rather<br />
than show up without make-up, perfect<br />
hair, the appropriate outfit, and right<br />
accessories.<br />
And men now visit beauty supply stores<br />
and browse isles of products for their<br />
hair, beard, skin, scalp etc. Why? Perhaps,<br />
as a society we no longer judge<br />
a person’s outward appearance by the<br />
character that reveals itself in ones daily<br />
words, attitudes, actions and behaviors,<br />
but rather by the perfectly fit body, Gucci<br />
sunglasses, Prada shoes, Coach purse,<br />
Rolex watch and the Louis Vuitton bag<br />
to carry it all in.<br />
When did our vision change towards<br />
how we view ourselves and our fellow<br />
citizens? What are we missing by seeing<br />
life only from on the surface? <strong>How</strong><br />
might our life change if we organized<br />
our goals, our thoughts, and behaviors<br />
around those things in life that enhance<br />
not only the person we could become as<br />
an individual, but also enhance the lives<br />
of the persons around us?<br />
When you examine your goals, the reasons<br />
you workout, the job you go to every<br />
day, how do these activities enhance<br />
your life? <strong>How</strong> are you enhancing the<br />
lives of the persons that are uniquely<br />
placed around you? Do the activities<br />
you engage in, the body you live in and<br />
the people you share your life with fulfill<br />
your inner longings? The desires of<br />
your heart? Or are you holding on to,<br />
or not participating in some activities<br />
and relationships because it’s easy? <strong>Are</strong><br />
you staying in your current occupation,<br />
because it pays the bills? Do you look<br />
back to a period in your life when you<br />
felt you were doing better than you are<br />
right now? Or perhaps, the way you<br />
envisioned your future would be in your<br />
younger years, has not yet materialized<br />
and you doubt your dreams will ever<br />
come true?<br />
All of us go through periods when life’s<br />
responsibilities can seem particularly<br />
burdensome, and our hopes and dreams<br />
seem like something that become further<br />
and further from our grasp. So how<br />
do we get back on track and reclaim the<br />
invincible dreams that we once believed<br />
would come true?<br />
First we must stop. Stop and take inventory<br />
of your life right now. Many<br />
dreams and goals never materialize<br />
because they never get past the wishful<br />
thinking and hopeful daydreaming<br />
launching pad. Yet, if you were to write<br />
down the attributes and skills you would<br />
need to accomplish some of your greatest<br />
dreams and goals, more than likely<br />
you are more than qualified to reach a<br />
successful outcome. So what’s the block<br />
between wishful thinking and making<br />
your inner dreams and goals a reality in<br />
your life?<br />
Spend some quality alone time with<br />
yourself; ask yourself, knowing you<br />
are equipped to move your goals and<br />
dreams from the wishful thinking category<br />
into a plan of action for success<br />
what is hindering you from doing so?<br />
Next, write out a personal inventory of<br />
your special gifts, skills, education, and<br />
personality. Write out your dreams, and<br />
how you envision living your perfect<br />
life. Armed with the above information,<br />
put together a plan to begin to live your<br />
dreams and take the first step today!<br />
