Manchester Children’s Hospitals NHS Trust comprised Booth Hall
Children’s Hospital and Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital.
The Trust provided a wide range of local healthcare services at
both hospitals for children from Manchester, Salford and the
surrounding districts, for example Bolton, Bury, Oldham,
Rochdale, Stockport, Tameside, Trafford and Wigan. Specialist
healthcare services were provided for children from throughout
the North West as well as nationally and internationally.
Audit Committee
This Committee was responsible for considering systems and
standards of internal control over all aspects and activities of the
Trust. It had the power to investigate through the Trust’s
internal auditor and, if necessary, through the Trust’s external
auditors.
Members: Mr Paul Brearley, Mrs Sheila Jones and Mrs Susan
Loudon.
During the year we treated many children from abroad including
such countries as France, Italy, Belgium, Kuwait and Malta.
The Trust employed over 1800 staff ranging from doctors and
nurses to clerical and maintenance staff.
Relevant Interests of Board Members
The Trust Board required all Board Members to declare interests
that were relevant and material to the Board. The register of the
Directors’ Interests is available to the public.
An Open Approach
The Trust Board remained committed to an open approach and
continued to hold its meetings in public.

This Committee was responsible for considering the terms and
conditions of employment, including all aspects of remuneration
The year was dominated by the preparatory work around merging
Manchester Children’s Hospitals NHS Trust with Central
Manchester Healthcare NHS Trust to form a new Trust.
The merger of the two Trusts will allow positive progress on
significant areas of co-operation and harmonisation ahead of the
opening of the new children’s hospital in 2006.
