DEFINE PAGESPACEThe storage class provides the storage attributes that are specified on the UNITand VOLUME operand <strong>for</strong> non-SMS-managed data sets. Use the storage classto specify the storage service level to be used by SMS <strong>for</strong> storage of the dataset. If SMS is inactive and STORAGECLASS is specified, the DEFINE isunsuccessful.Abbreviation: STORCLASSWAP|N<strong>OS</strong>WAPspecifies whether page space is defined <strong>for</strong> local system queue area (LSQA)pages or <strong>for</strong> pageable private area pages. (Auxiliary storage managementseparates private area address space pages into LSQA pages and pageableprivate area pages.)SWAPSpecifies that the page space is a high-speed data set used during a swapoperation to store and retrieve the set of LSQA pages owned by an addressspace.N<strong>OS</strong>WAPIndicates that the page space is a conventional page space used to recordpageable private area pages.||||||||||||||||Abbreviation: NSWAPTO(date)|FOR(days)specifies the retention period <strong>for</strong> the page space. If neither TO nor FOR isspecified, the page space can be deleted at any time.The expiration date in the catalog is updated and the expiration date in the<strong>for</strong>mat-1 DSCB is changed. Should the expiration date in the catalog not agreewith the expiration date in the VTOC, the VTOC entry overrides the catalogentry.The MANAGEMENTCLASS maximum retention period, if specified, limits theretention period specified by this parameter.TO(date)Specifies the earliest date that a command without the PURGE parametercan delete the page space. Specify the expiration date in the <strong>for</strong>m yyyyddd,where yyyy is a four-digit year (to a maximum of 2155) and ddd is thethree-digit day of the year from 001 through 365 (<strong>for</strong> non-leap years) or 366(<strong>for</strong> leap years).The following four values are ″never-expire″ dates: 99365, 99366, 1999365,and 1999366. Specifying a ″never-expire″ date means that the PURGEparameter will always be required to delete the page space. For relatedin<strong>for</strong>mation, see the ″EXPDT Parameter″ section of z/<strong>OS</strong> MVS JCL Reference,SA22-7597.Notes:1. Any dates with two-digit years (other than 99365 or 99366) will betreated as pre-2000 dates. (See note 2.)2. Specifying the current date or a prior date as the expiration date willmake the page space immediately eligible <strong>for</strong> deletion.FOR(days)specifies the number of days to keep the page space. The maximumnumber that can be specified is 9999. If the number specified is 0 through9998, the page space is retained <strong>for</strong> the number of days specified; if thenumber is 9999, the page space is retained indefinitely.Chapter 17.
