Appendix F. Interpreting DCOLLECT OutputThis appendix contains General-use Programming Interface and AssociatedGuidance Information. This appendix is intended to help you to interpret DCOLLECT output.DCOLLECT provides you with data set information, volume usage information, and information about data sets and storage controlled by DFSMShsm. RunningDCOLLECT produces a snapshot of the requested information as it exists at thattime. DCOLLECT does not monitor the information continuously. This informationcan then be used for accounting, planning, statistical, and other purposes. This appendix has two parts. The first part, “DCOLLECT Output RecordStructure” on page 438, shows the structure of the different output recordsproduced by DCOLLECT. The second part, “DCOLLECT Output Record FieldDescriptions” on page 469, provides field descriptions for the different outputrecords. The following output record types are included in this appendix:TypeDAVMBCTDCSCMCBCSGVLAGDRLBCNAINameActive Data Set RecordVSAM Association InformationVolume InformationMigrated Data Set InformationBackup Data Set InformationDASD Capacity Planning InformationTape Capacity Planning InformationData Class construct informationStorage Class construct informationManagement Class construct InformationBase Configuration InformationStorage Group construct InformationStorage Group volume InformationAggregate Group InformationOAM Drive Record InformationOAM Library Record InformationCache Names from the Base Configuration InformationAccounting Information from the ACS routinesThe output data set used by DCOLLECT must be created prior to calling thefunction. It must have a physical sequential organization (PS) and a record formatof variable (V) or variable blocked (VB). Using the following guidelines, theprimary space for the data set can be estimated:Volume listSize of record (336 + 4) * average number of data sets on volume * numberof volumes scanned.Storage Group listSize of record (260 + 4) * average number of data sets on volume * numberof volumes in the each storage group * number of storage groups.© Copyright IBM Corp. 1973, 2004 437
