Dose (WHO recommended)<br />

Adults: > 60 kg: 200 mg (buff. tabs.) twice daily or 250 mg (buff.<br />

powder) twice daily or 400 mg <strong>on</strong>ce daily (buff. tabs. or<br />

EC caps.)<br />

< 60 kg: 125 mg (buff. tabs.) twice daily or 167 mg (buff.<br />

powder) twice daily or 250 mg <strong>on</strong>ce daily (buff. tabs. or EC caps.)<br />

Children: < 3 m<strong>on</strong>ths: 50 mg/m 2 of body surface twice daily or 240<br />

mg/m 2 <strong>on</strong>ce daily<br />

Food effect<br />

It can be taken with or without food.<br />

Half-life in plasma<br />

From 5 to 7 hours<br />

Metabolism<br />

3 m<strong>on</strong>ths - < 13 years: 90 mg/m2 twice daily or<br />

240 mg/m2 <strong>on</strong>ce daily<br />

= 13 years or > 60 kg = adult dosage<br />

It is eliminated unchanged through renal excreti<strong>on</strong>.<br />

Interacti<strong>on</strong>s with other drugs<br />

� Rare<br />

� Trimethoprim/Sulfamethoxazole (TMP/SMX) increases Lamivudine blood<br />

levels.<br />

� Do not administer with Zalcitabine due to possible antag<strong>on</strong>ism.<br />
