However, it cannot replace traditional translation solutions, such as human translation (or anautomatic translation tool used as an aid to <strong>the</strong> translation process).EADS Web TV is <strong>in</strong> English.3.5. Integration ofmultil<strong>in</strong>gual onl<strong>in</strong>edevices and toolsThe EADS <strong>in</strong>formation portal (for over 110 000 potential users) was set up <strong>in</strong> 2002 with a core teamcomposed of representatives of <strong>the</strong> <strong>Bus<strong>in</strong>ess</strong> Unit, IT services and <strong>the</strong> purchas<strong>in</strong>g department. In 2010,this multil<strong>in</strong>gual <strong>in</strong>formation portal covered 7 languages with specific tools: semantic analysis eng<strong>in</strong>e(<strong>in</strong>tegrated <strong>in</strong> 2006), various search tools (with key-word, concept, paragraph, and term<strong>in</strong>ologyextraction), cross-l<strong>in</strong>gual search<strong>in</strong>g, dictionaries and a <strong>the</strong>saurus. This device also reduces IT<strong>in</strong>vestment costs thanks to transnational governance (annual budget for <strong>the</strong> multil<strong>in</strong>gual <strong>in</strong>formationportal of <strong>EU</strong>R1.1 M, with a 4 % <strong>in</strong>crease s<strong>in</strong>ce 2002, <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g 80 % of expenditures for content). Workis currently <strong>in</strong> progress on optimis<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> device: new function searches, RSS tools, personalisation of<strong>the</strong> <strong>in</strong>terface and a text m<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g toolRESULTSCompetitive advantages with EADS multil<strong>in</strong>gual devices:- Improved communication and knowledge shar<strong>in</strong>g between sites based <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> UK, France, Spa<strong>in</strong>, Italy and Germany. The tool can be used for a general understand<strong>in</strong>g of a document written <strong>in</strong> a foreign language, but not for a translation<strong>in</strong>to a foreign language.
