SECTION 3- COMMUNITY PARTICIPARTIONFuture Plans for Community ParticipationObjective 3.1 of goal number three is to increase community involvement.The CAG has identified five strategies:1. Continue to hold regularly scheduled monthly meetings at a time andplace most convenient to the community. The CAG feels thatconsistency and convenience of the meeting schedule and meetingplace are very important to obtain regular attendance of the meetingsby the community.2. Further develop the <strong>Scenic</strong> Byway Website. The East Central <strong>Florida</strong>Regional Planning Council has hosted an informational website athttp://www.ecfrpc.org/<strong>Scenic</strong>_Highway.htm. The CAG intends tofurther develop the website to make it more useful as a device forcommunity involvement.3. Create an email newsletter. A properly executed email newsletter canbe an efficient means to distribute information to inform the public andincrease community participation.4. Invite and encourage community input though community meetings ateach major step of the <strong>Scenic</strong> Highway Program.5. Develop a permanent display and archive of <strong>Scenic</strong> Byway materials atthe new Montverde Library.Stakeholders1. Governmental: Major governmental stakeholders in the GreenMountain <strong>Scenic</strong> Byway are The Town of Montverde and LakeCounty. In 2002, the neighboring City of Minneola created aChapter 180 Utility District that takes in a large portion of theCorridor. A portion of the Saint Johns River Water ManagementDistrict’s North Shore Restoration Area is within the Corridor,and has considerable regulatory authority within the LakeApopka Basin, which constitutes most of the Corridor.The East Central <strong>Florida</strong> Regional Planning Council has been apartner with the CAG since very early in the project. The LakeApopka Basin Planning Initiative Steering Committee is made upof representatives of the eight local governments within thebasin, and focuses on issues of concern to Lake Apopka and thebasin.10
