SECTION 3- COMMUNITY PARTICIPARTION2. Business: The real estate development industry has a majorpresence within the Corridor. Sugarloaf Mountain LLC of Tampaholds the Sugarloaf Mountain D.R.I. The Ginn Company of PalmCoast is developing nearly 2,000 acres just south of the Town ofMontverde. Lennar Homes proposed a D.R.I. on the westernside of the Corridor, but subsequently withdrew the application.There are a handful of small businesses which include theSpring of Life bottled water company, Reflections ofGreenery plant nursery, the Montverde General Store, and theF&M convenience store.The Byway is used by large numbers of recreational andcompetitive cyclists. Several large triathlons and road racesdepend on using the Byway each year. The USA NationalTriathlon Center is located near the Corridor, and the Byway isused by athletes training at the Center.3. Residents: There are roughly 3,300 people living within theCorridor, not including students at Montverde Academy andseasonal residents at the Woodlands Lutheran Camp. A mailingwas made to 1,668 property owners within the Corridor inJanuary of 2003, inviting them to the CAG’s communitymeeting.4. Other Organizations: The Woodlands Lutheran Camp is a 180-acre camp, conference and retreat center owned by the <strong>Florida</strong>-Georgia District of the Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod. Thecamp is open to the public.The Montverde Academy is a private, nonprofit elementary andsecondary boarding school that straddles the Byway inMontverde. The Academy is considered both a scenic andhistoric resource.The Friends of Lake Apopka (FOLA) is a grassroots citizensgroup that has been very influential in the restoration of LakeApopka. FOLA is now sponsoring a Lake Apopka Greenways andTrails Master Plan that could have a great beneficial impact onthe <strong>Scenic</strong> Byway Corridor.The Central <strong>Florida</strong> Freewheelers, The Woodlands LutheranCamp, The Montverde Academy, and the Ferndale BaptistChurch have adopted sections of the Byway under the LakeCounty Adopt-A-Roadway Program.11
