DeMeritt in memory of her daughter, Katherine, Class of 1908, and endowed in perpetuity in 1974 by Margaret DeMerittCroghan, Class of 1911, Katherine's sister. The DeMeritt association with UNH is a long one. Katherine's father, Albert DeMeritt (Honorary '04), was oneof the early Trustees of UNH, and Elizabeth P. DeMeritt (Honorary MA, '24) served as Dean of Women from 1919 to 1931. Margaret DeMeritt Croghanwas the first alumna Trustee. Income to be used to provide one award each year to a junior woman who has shown great aptitude for helpful leadership andcheerful loyalty combined with strength of character and scholastic attainments. Established 1974K. DENHAM MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP [1TA053]A gift from the family and friends of Kenneth E. Denham, Class of 1974, established a scholarship in his memory. While at UNH, Kenneth was a BusinessAdministration major and a member of the rugby team. An annual scholarship is given to a needy student in good academic standing, with specialconsideration given to students from NY and MA. Established 1977KENNETH FOWLER SCHOLARSHIP FUND [1TB011]Income to be used to provide scholarship assistance to worthy undergraduate students who are enrolled in the College of Life Sciences and Agriculture orthe Thompson School of Applied Sciences and studying Dairy Life. Established to honor Kenneth R. Fowler on the occasion of his retirement after 50 yearsof service to the University. Established 1980KENNETH J. HIGSON ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP [1TD039]Endowment established under the will of the late Kenneth J. Higson to provide annual scholarships to undergraduate students majoring in MechanicalEngineering or its successor course of study who show academic promise or performance. Financial need may or may not be a consideration. Nominees forthe awards shall be recommended by the Dean of the College of Engineering and Physical Sciences, and the scholarship funds shall be allocated andadministered in accordance with the policies of the Office of the Financial Aid. Afocused effort to understand this region and special opportunities and problems that it represents is the central purpose of the endowment, therefore, theendowment will: 1) stimulate basic research efforts in marine related disciplines that will make long-term contributions to mankind’s understanding,effective use and protection of the world’s oceans; 2) assist the University in establishing marine education and public service programs that are consistentwith the character and needs of a public institution of higher education and adapt to the special needs and opportunities of the New England region; 3) assistyoung men and women in the early years of their careers to make substantial contributions to marine sciences and engineering. The income to be used to provide financial aid and assistance toworthy New Hampshire students with preference to those students residing in Newmarket, NH, during their secondary school education. Established 1970LLOYD HAWKENSEN FUND [1TB047]Established by friends of this UNH Forestry graduate to support a scholarship in the Forestry program. Established 1991LOCKE PRIZE AND LOCKE SCHOLARSHIP [1TA124] [1TD030]Bequest of Mrs. Mary D. Carbee of Haverhill, NH, in memory of Mr. and Mrs. S. Morris Locke. The income to provide an annual prize to the senior whohas excelled in the study of Latin and a scholarship to the highest ranking junior majoring in Chemistry, Entomology, or in any field where the Microscopetechnique is largely employed, preference being given to a student from Haverhill, NH. Income to be used for scholarships to undergraduate students, withpreference given to NH residents interested in pursuing a career in animal health and/or veterinary science. Lord of Ossipee, NH is to establish a scholarship fund in memory of his parents, Francis Hubbard Lord and Hannah Blaisdell Lord,income to be used for scholarships to boys and girls from Carroll County, with consideration being given to scholarship, character, leadership andsoundness of body. Established 1951LOUISE HARWELL ROGERS [1TC023]Established by her family, friends and colleagues to aid deserving piano students at the UNH. The purpose of this fund is to provide scholarship assistanceto undergraduate or graduate students who are studying piano. First consideration will be given to piano majors, but the award may be made to musicmajors studying-but not majoring in-piano, or gifted non-majors studying piano. The award recipient will be chosen on the basis of merit by the Chair of theMusic Department; financial need is not to be a factor in making this award. Established 1993LOUIS P.
