WVDP Phase 1 CSAP• A minimum of two soil cores will be collected from each of the two DemineralizerSludge Ponds to a minimum depth of 3 m. Samples will be collected representative ofeach 1 m interval. The soil bores will be scanned vertically with down-hole staticreadings every 15 cm. The purpose of this data collection is to determine the likely depthof contamination associated with the sludge ponds. [required]• If Demineralizer Sludge Pond soil cores encounter contamination in the 2-3 m depthinterval, sampling will continue deeper until contamination is vertically bounded andsamples yield results consistent with background conditions. The purpose of this datacollection is to vertically bound subsurface contamination that might be encountered.[contingent]• Four soil cores will be collected around the New Sewage Treatment Plant. These coreswill extend 1 m into the Lavery Till. They will be scanned vertically with down-holestatic readings every 50 cm. One soil sample will be formed representative of each 1 mdepth, starting with the 1-2 m interval. The last sample will be representative of LaveryTill conditions to a depth of 1 m into the till. Three groundwater samples will becollected from each bore, one from the water table surface, one from the zoneimmediately above the Lavery Till, and one midway between the water table and theLavery Till. The purpose of this data collection is to determine the presence of subsurfacecontamination in the vicinity of the Sewage Treatment Plant and to provide backgroundinformation on the Lavery Till. [required]• If any of the four New Sewage Treatment Plant soil cores encounters contaminationabove background conditions at depths below 1 m, then additional core locations will beselected to laterally bound the contamination encountered. If the contamination appearsto be associated with the movement of contaminated groundwater, bounding bores willbe placed on a triangular grid with a 30-m spacing and sampling will continue untilcontamination is bounded. If contamination appears to be associated with contaminatedsoil layers in the vadose zone, bounding bore placement will be driven by the location, the nature of the contamination, and by the nature of the suspected release. In this casesoil core separation will likely be less than 30 m. The purpose of this data collection is tolaterally bound subsurface contamination that might be encountered. [contingent]Rev. 1 F-16
