WVDP Phase 1 CSAP3. Utility Surveys. Utility surveys typically fall into two categories: surveys of newlyinstalled utilities (see As Built Surveys) and surveys of existing utility systems, includingabove ground, ground surface, and subsurface utilities. For the WVDP premises, existingutility surveys potentially serve several very important purposes such as identifyingsubsurface areas where contamination may be present and providing informationnecessary for remedial and decommissioning design work. Additionally, the existingutility surveys are essential for safety reasons during on-site decommissioning work (safeoverhead clearance, safe digs, and so on). Section 5 of this plan describes buriedinfrastructure/utility survey requirements.4. Site Plan Engineering Drawing Surveys. Site plan engineering drawing surveys aresurveys conducted to support the conception, justification, design, and build process formaintenance, construction, decommissioning, and remediation activities. The accuracyrequirements for site engineering drawings can vary dramatically from feature to feature, depending on the significance of the feature to the ultimate design.5. As-Built Surveys. As-built surveys are intended to show actual site conditions forcompleted projects for record and/or payment purposes. As-built surveys typically haveaccuracy requirements similar to those of detailed surveys completed for planningpurposes. In the case of excavations, as-built surveys are important for costing andpayment purposes. In the case of utilities and structures, as-built surveys are an importantpart of appropriate facilities management. In all cases, as-built surveys are importantquality control checks on work that was performed to determine that requiredspecifications were met and, if there were deviations from drawn plans, to document thereasons why those deviations occurred. In the case of WVDP, as-built surveys will alsodocument Phase 1 decommissioning activities that affect the premise’s land surfaces forFSS purposes and Phase 2 planning.9.2 Accuracy Requirements of SurveysReconnaissance surveys will be conducted with accuracy sufficient to obtain accurate relativelocations of important site features. Typically in this context differentially corrected GPS issufficient.Rev. 1 66
