WVDP Phase 1 CSAPphotographs are taken to document sampling points to facilitate relocating the point at a laterdate, two or more permanent reference points should be included within the photograph. Inaddition to the information recorded in the field logbook, one or more site photograph referencemaps will be prepared as required.10.3.3 Sample-Numbering SystemA unique sample numbering scheme will be used to identify each sample collected for laboratoryanalysis. The purpose of this numbering scheme is to provide a tracking system for the retrievalof analytical and field data on each sample. Sample identification numbers will be used on allsample labels or tags, field data sheets and/or logbooks, chain-of-custody records, and all otherapplicable documentation used during the project. The sample-numbering scheme used for field samples will also be used for duplicate samples sothat these types of samples will not be discernible by the laboratory. Other field QC samples, however, will be numbered so that they can be readily identified.10.3.4 Sample LabelsLabels will be affixed to all sample containers during sampling activities. Information will berecorded on each sample container label at the time of sample collection. The information to berecorded on the labels will be as follows:• Sample identification number;• Sample type;• Sampled interval (e.g., 0 to 15 cm);• Site name and sampling station number;• Analysis to be performed;• Type of chemical preservative present in container;• Date and time of sample collection; and• Sampler’s name and initials.10.3.5 Cooler Receipt ChecklistThe condition of shipping coolers and enclosed sample containers will be documented uponreceipt at the analytical laboratory. This documentation will be accomplished by using the coolerRev. 1 72
