DBMS Server EnhancementsString functions—such as length(), substring(), and position()—operatesimilarly on UTF-8 strings.Coercion is supported between different string types and between string typesand other Ingres data types (numeric, datetime, binary, and so on) in a UTF-8database.More information can be found in the Installation Guide, in the SQL ReferenceGuide under storage formats, and in the Command Reference Guide under thecreatedb and unloaddb command descriptions.Improved Out of the Box DefaultsIngres has new defaults for the following configuration parameters, set duringinstallation.The default page size (default_page_size) for tables is changed from 2K to 8K.The default buffer cache size (cache_guideline) is configured as medium for allpage sizes, resulting in increased size for the following page sizes:• For 8K page size, increased from 16 MB to 48 MB.• For 32K page size, increased from 12 MB to 48 MB.• For 64K page size, increased from 11 MB to 48 MB.DMF Cache 2K and 8K are enabled by default.The default transaction log file size (II_LOG_FILE_SIZE_MB) is changed from32 MB to 256 MB.
