Connectivity Enhancements.NET Data Provider EnhancementsEnhancements to the .NET Data Provider include:• New keywords in the connection string:dbms_userSpecifies the user name to be associated with the DBMS session. Thiskeyword is equivalent to the Ingres -u flag, which can requireadministrator privileges.dbms_passwordSpecifies the DBMS password for the user. This flag is equivalent to theIngres -P flag.character encodingSpecifies the .NET character encoding used for conversions betweenUnicode in the .NET application and character data types in thedatabase. Typically, the character encoding is determinedautomatically by the data provider from the Data Access Serverinstallation character set. This keyword allows an alternate characterencoding to be specified or a valid character encoding to be used if thedata provider is unable to map the server's character set.• Integration with Visual Studio 2005 and Visual Studio 2008 is enabled byadditional properties to IngresConnectionStringBuilder. New edit boxes areadded to the Connection String Editor dialog.• The current Interval data type is split into two data types:IntervalDayToSecond and IntervalYearToMonth. The IntervalYearToMonthremains mapped to .NET String data type. The IntervalDayToSecond ismapped to .NET TimeSpan data type. For details, see the sections Connection String Keywords, Connection StringEditor (Data Adapter Configuration Wizard), and Mapping of Ingres NativeTypes to .NET Types in the chapter "Understanding .NET Data ProviderConnectivity" in the Connectivity Guide.Performance Improvements in Network Communications (UNIX andWindows)Connections across Ingres Net using TCP/IP are set up more quickly, especiallyin heavily loaded or slow networks, such as wide-area networks (WANs).154 Migration Guide
