Ease of Use EnhancementsAutomatic Coercion Between Integers and StringsThe DBMS Server performs automatic coercion between integer/float datatypes and char, varchar, nchar, or nvarchar data types. For example, anINSERT can place a quoted string value into an integer column or a databaseprocedure can have an assignment statement that assigns a float value to achar variable—all without using explicit coercion functions such as CHAR() orINT4().Date FunctionsThe following date functions extract the specified portion of a date ortimestamp: year(), quarter(), month(), week(), week_iso(), day(), hour(),minute(), second(), and microsecond(). The Name Serverregistration mechanism no longer erroneously de-registers servers nor requiresyou to recycle the installation to recover servers.
