I s s u e N o . 5Decking ProjectAs part of my VCAL PDS community project, I (Habeeb) worked withMohammed, David, Andrew and Mr Austin in designing and constructing thenew decking outside the teachers staffroom. In the beginning our progress was slightly weak but slowly we picked up thepace, worked as a constructive team and got the job done.We would all like to give a big thanks to Mr Austin for sharing his knowledgewith us and helping us build new skills.Replacing Chairs on the Delahey CampusCommunity ProjectAs a part of PDS we had to do acommunity project for one of the majoroutcomes for the year. Myself, Tomicaand Jamiel decided to repair the chairsout in the court yard. We thought itwould be a good idea and would benefitthe school to have brand new benches tosit on and also to make things look a bitbetter. We grouped up with Mr Austinand went to Bunnings and Bowens to geta few quotes, we came up with twoquotes. One was about $3000 with all thewood cut to size and planed, the otherone was about $1500 but that woodneeded to be sanded, cut to size andplaned - which we also needed topurchase the tools. We began the projectas soon as the wood arrived, we had toplane, cut, sand and stain the woodplanks to match the benches outside.Over 3-4 weeks we got through 4benches and 1 table, they turned out well.We all enjoyed doing the project.By Jarryd McKeown 2Y2P a g e 7During Terms 2 and 3, Jarryd and Iworked on replacing outdoor seatsand tables. One of the reasons wecompleted this project was to betterthe campus environment atCopperfield. The other reason wasin response to the School Captain’srequests. The communityproject that I decided to participate in was cleaning the Copperfield College garden onthe Delahey campus. This project would take us one whole term working every Mondaymorning under the supervision of Shona Gilchrist. In our community project we had agroup of four;Dominik Panic, Vukasin (Vukii) Djuric ,Danielle Bugarski Aquilina and I.During our time working on our community project we learnt many skills on how togarden and work as a team to achieve our goal of cleaning up the campus and making ita better place. First we cleaned all of the rubbish away and removed the old soil to makeway for the new soil we also removed some of the unwanted trees that were in our way.We all had a great time working together and we would like to thank Shona Gilchristfor supervising us and providing us with equipment and teaching us new skills on howto garden.By Kevin Cruz 2Y2CommunityProjectLast week, KJ and William finishedfour benches in the courtyard.
