Tomorrow’s world The foreseeable future will see the widespread availability of broadband services. However, content and easeof-use and billing of content will be much slower to develop. The Ars Electronica Center in Linz (www.aec.at) is conducting research into future digital services and products. In their Futurelab, scientists are working on the development of wireless cyber spectacles which they hope one day will replace devices such as television screens, PC monitors and mobile handsets. The spectacles show 3D images but without shutting out the outside world. In other words, the wearer can focus on a whole range of digital information and entertainment content without losing touch with the space around him. In a further development stage, not only will integrated broadband output devices deliver the information but there will also be special input devices capable of replicating voice, body movements and body forms, turning one-way broadband communication into multi-way communication.
