tantly, reduced inventory. Because everything had been more<br />
systematically arranged, only two days of material had to be<br />
kept on hand. Employees maintain an overview of inventory at<br />
each workstation that clearly indicates when materials must be<br />
restocked or upstream products must be delivered. These<br />
needs are then forwarded to upstream workstations. Losses<br />
resulting from quality-related remanufacturing work were also<br />
markedly reduced. And, in some cases, clever means of production<br />
creating added value or reducing setup times were<br />
designed.<br />
The Teamwork Project launched by <strong>Oerlikon</strong> Vacuum in <strong>2011</strong><br />
has clearly been a great success. The company now intends to<br />
implement the program throughout the Cologne site and then<br />
quickly export it to sites in China and France. The Operations<br />
Team’s deadline for accomplishing this mammoth task is 2013.
