C: I'd make right up around a hundred,<br />

right around seventy-five and a hundred<br />

gallons a day in big chums. And I don't<br />

believe I ever made two pieces alike,<br />

they'd be a little difference in them. But,<br />

I put my handles on alike, and the lifters<br />

on die churn. Thafs how I can. . .I can<br />

tell a piece of my pott'ry, if I was to see it<br />

in New York, just pass by and see it, I<br />

could tell it, except in a flower pot,<br />

diey're made every way, you know, no<br />

certain shape for a flower pot, something<br />

to hold a litde dirt in the bottom, and a<br />

hole and a flower set in it.<br />

L: Well, you're trying to preserve die old<br />

things that has been, and things that are<br />

going out. When I go, this place will go<br />

with me, because mey'll be nobody else<br />

left to carry it on. And widiout it, what<br />

they get here they can't get anywhere<br />

C: Yes sir, that's the first thing that was ever<br />

used here for a glaze. Take three<br />

measures of ashes and one of the<br />

setdin's, mix it together.<br />

L: These settlin's are in a small place here.<br />

I think they used to be an old mill pond<br />

here, and this is the silt that settled into<br />

it. It has all kinds of minerals in it, come<br />

off of these old hills around here. It's<br />

mosdy red clay is what it is.<br />

C: We use some clay in the glaze, but now<br />

that clay won't melt by itself. I always
