Cheever and Lanier favored four-gallon ware and smaller, although<br />

both turned ware as large as six gallons on occasion. By<br />

Lanier^ recollection, "I ain't made but one eight-gallon churn that I<br />

can remember, and when I finished it, I marked it nine and I think it<br />

held seven." Just as an indication of the amount of clay used in<br />

turning, the Meaderses estimated die real weight of material for a<br />

one-gallon piece at ten pounds and, for a six-gallon piece, twenty-two<br />

pounds.<br />
