Metal pottery lifters.
Figure 25a. (Photo from the film, The Meaders Family: North Georgia Potters.)
Figure 25b. The smallest lifters were made by Lanier Meaders for half-gallon vessels;
the next size, by Lanier's brother, John, for two-gallon ware; and the third
largest, by one of Daddy Bill Dorsey's relatives for three- and four-gallon pieces.
The large lifters were made by a black country blacksmith, Sam Hamilton, in
1927 and were used by the Meaderses on rare occasions for transporting enormous
ten- and twelve-gallon vessels. (Photo by Ralph Rinzler, 1978).
