The smallest lifters were made by Lanier Meaders for half-gallon vessels; the next size, by Lanier's brother, John, for two-gallon ware; and the third largest, by one of Daddy Bill Dorsey's relatives for three- and four-gallon pieces. The large lifters were made by a black country blacksmith, Sam Hamilton, in 1927 and were used by the Meaderses on rare occasions for transporting enormous ten- and twelve-gallon vessels.
