Prohibited <strong>Sign</strong>s(a) It shall be unlawful to erect, cause to be erected, maintain or cause to be maintained, any signdescribed as follows:(1) Commercial signs oriented toward residentially zoned land: No freestanding identification signshall be located within 50 feet <strong>of</strong> any residentially zoned property.(2) Traffic or pedestrian hazards: Any privately owned sign which constitutes a traffic hazard or adetriment to traffic safety by reason <strong>of</strong> its size, location, movement, content, coloring, ormethod <strong>of</strong> illumination. These include any sign which obstructs the vision between pedestriansand vehicles using the public right-<strong>of</strong>-way, including, but not restricted to, those not meetingvisibility requirements <strong>of</strong> this code.(3) Snipe, and others similar signs attached to trees, utility poles, or fences, except for signs postedby public agencies in furtherance <strong>of</strong> their stated duties.(4) <strong>Sign</strong>s attached to or painted on vehicles which are unregistered, inoperable, or not regularlyused as part <strong>of</strong> the advertised business and are parked in such a way so as to advertise to thepassing motorist or pedestrian.(5) <strong>Sign</strong>s that are in violation <strong>of</strong> the Building Code or Electrical Code adopted by the <strong>City</strong>.(6) <strong>Sign</strong>s with visible moving, revolving, or rotating parts or visible mechanical movement <strong>of</strong> anydescription or other apparent visible movement achieved by electrical, electronic, or mechanicalmeans, except for traditional barber poles.(7) <strong>Sign</strong>s that emit any audible sound, odor, or visible matter such as smoke or steam, that isintended to attract attention, or involve the use <strong>of</strong> live animals.(8) <strong>Sign</strong>s or sign structures that interfere in any way with free use <strong>of</strong> any fire escape, emergencyexit, or standpipe; made <strong>of</strong> combustible materials that are attached to or in close proximity t<strong>of</strong>ire escapes or fire-fighting equipment; or that obstruct any window to such an extent that lightor ventilation is reduced to a point below that required by any provision <strong>of</strong> this code or otherordinance <strong>of</strong> the <strong>City</strong>.(9) <strong>Sign</strong>s that resemble any <strong>of</strong>ficial sign or marker erected by any governmental agency, or that byreason <strong>of</strong> position, shape, or color, would conflict with the proper functioning <strong>of</strong> any traffic signor signal, or be <strong>of</strong> a size, location, movement, color, or illumination that may be reasonablyconfused with or construed as, or conceal, a traffic control device.(10) <strong>Sign</strong>s, within ten feet <strong>of</strong> public right-<strong>of</strong>-way or 100 feet <strong>of</strong> traffic control lights, that contain redor green lights that might be confused with traffic control lights.(11) <strong>Sign</strong>s or other devices that are <strong>of</strong> such intensity or brilliance as to cause glare or impair thevision <strong>of</strong> any motorist, cyclist, or pedestrian using or entering a public way, or that are a hazardor a nuisance to occupants <strong>of</strong> any property because <strong>of</strong> glare or other characteristics defined as .3foot-candles illumination above ambient light, as measured using a foot candle (Lux) meter at a<strong>Ordinance</strong> No. <strong>04</strong>-<strong>2012</strong> Page102:3 Amendment to Chapter 102. <strong>Sign</strong>s<strong>Adopted</strong> 6/4/<strong>2012</strong>
