Theicon will disappear.IMPORTANT: Always listen to ensure the channel is freebefore transmitting.Time-Out TimerThe radio has a built-in time-out timer that automaticallylimits transmissions to a maximum of 3 minutes of continuousoperation. This feature is required by the ACMA to preventaccidental blocking of the frequency should your PTT switchbecome jammed or be otherwise pressed accidentally. Thetime-out period can be changed by your dealer.When the time-out timer activates, the radio will beep for 5seconds then the symbol will flash continuously. Normaloperation will be restored once the PTT is released.BacklightingThe Liquid Crystal Display and keys are back lit for easyviewing at night. The backlight remains on while the radio isswitched on.Adjusting the BacklightingThe backlight brightness and colour can be adjusted forpersonal preference.To make adjustments to the backlighting, press and hold theLVLChannel knob (or PRI key) for several seconds. BKLGTwill be displayed indicating the Brightness setting is selected.LVLBriefly press the Channel knob (or PRI key) to cyclethrough the available settings. Rotate the Channel knob leftor right (or press or ) to adjust the current setting.There are three back-light settings available;BKLGT (Brightness Setting): Provides a continuouslyvariable brightness adjustment from very dim to fullbrightness.COLOR (Colour Setting): Provides a continuously variablecolour spectrum change via a smooth blend of colours.WHITE (Whiteness Setting): Controls the whiteness orcolour saturation of the selected colour from full colour toWhite (no colour).TIP: For the deepest colour range, reduce the WHITE setting.After making your selection, press and hold the ChannelLVLknob (or PRI key) to return to normal operation.NOTE: The back-light setting function will automatically timeout after 6 seconds if no further adjustments have been made.BANDWIDTH FILTER SETTINGSTo accommodate the blending of the newer narrowband UHFCB 80 channel plan with the original 40 channel widebandsystem, your radio is fitted with two user-selectable receiverbandwidth filters. While either of these will provide superbreceive audio, selecting the wide filter will further increasethe tolerance of the receiver to 40 channel wideband radiosthat might otherwise sound over-modulated or slightly offfrequency on channels 1 – 40. Selecting the narrow receivefilter will increase the selectivity of the radio to stronginterfering signals from adjacent channels.To select the desired filter, press and hold the MENU keyto enter the menu, then press the MENU key repeatedlyuntil NBFLT (Narrowband Filter) or WBFLT (WidebandFilter) is displayed.
