Example<br />

- A female, age 35, 5’7“ tall, weighing 140 pounds,<br />

who classifies herself a Type II Skier:<br />

1. Using the skier’s weight only, locate the appropriate<br />

SKIER CODE (answer: J).<br />

2. Using the skier’s height only, locate the appropriate<br />

SKIER CODE (answer: K).<br />

3. If the SKIER CODE for height and weight are different,<br />

select the SKIER CODE closer to the top of the chart<br />

(answer: J).<br />

4. Identify the Skier Type. The chart is designed for Skier<br />

Type I. For Type II, move down (towards the bottom of<br />

the chart) one SKIER CODE. For Type III, move down<br />

two SKIER CODE (answer: K).<br />

5. Move up one SKIER CODE if the skier is age 50 or<br />

older or under 10 (answer: K).<br />

6. Determine the boot sole length (for this example,<br />

298 mm) and find the “Initial Indicator Value”, the<br />

point where the SKIER CODE row and the Sole Length<br />

Column intersect (answer: 5 1/2).<br />

Determine the SKIER CODE<br />

for the following skiers:<br />

• Skier A: a type III skier, under 50 years old with a<br />

weight of 72 kg, a height of 168 cm<br />

• Skier B: weighing 145 lbs, 5’ 7” tall, under 50 years<br />

old and a type I skier<br />

• Skier C: 170 cm tall, weighing 155 lbs, a type II skier<br />

and more than 50 years old<br />

Note:<br />

If the skier reports release/retention problems see the<br />

chapter “trouble shooting release/retention problems“,<br />

page 30 in the manual.<br />

Skiers who desire release/retention settings lower than<br />

Type I may designate themselves (I-). Type I- is inappropriate<br />

for skiers 17 kg/38 lbs or less.<br />

Type I- Move up the table one skier code.<br />

Skiers who desire release/retention settings higher than<br />

Type III may designate themselves (III+).<br />

Type III+ -Move down the table three skier codes.<br />

Skiers may select skier type designations that are<br />

different for twist and forward lean. In such a case, the<br />

selection shall be indicated by a slash separating twist<br />

and forward lean selections, in that order (for example,<br />

K/L, K for the toe and L for the heel.
