第 25 屆 「 香 港 觀 鳥 大 賽 」本 年 度 的 「 香 港 觀 鳥 大 賽 」 已 踏 入 第 25 屆 。25 年 來 , 感 謝 觀 鳥 人 士熱 心 參 與 , 為 本 會 的 保 育 工 作 籌 募 善 款 。 初 時 觀 鳥 大 賽 籌 得 的 善款 , 用 於 收 購 米 埔 基 圍 養 蝦 塘 的 管 理 及 保 育 權 , 從 而 建 立 現 時 的 米埔 自 然 保 護 區 。後 來 , 每 年 觀 鳥 大 賽 的 收 益 , 皆 用 作 維 持 米 埔 自 然 保 護 區 及 其設 施 的 日 常 運 作 及 改 善 工 程 。 米 埔 不 但 每 年 吸 引 大 批 市 民 參 觀 , 更成 為 濕 地 管 理 的 區 域 培 訓 中 心 。 來 自 東 亞 各 地 的 保 育 經 理 、 科 學家 、 教 學 人 員 及 政 府 官 員 , 會 來 到 米 埔 了 解 濕 地 管 理 及 野 生 環 境 監測 項 目 的 工 作 。楊 路 年 博 士 自 1991 年 加 入 本 會 , 出 任 米 埔 自 然 保 護 區 經 理 一職 。2008 年 , 楊 博 士 離 開 本 會 , 加 入 位 於 瑞 士 的 拉 姆 薩 爾 公 約 秘 書處 , 出 任 亞 太 地 區 高 級 顧 問 , 向 區 內 的 政 府 及 非 政 府 機 構 , 提 供 關於 拉 姆 薩 爾 濕 地 的 專 業 意 見 。 雖 然 隨 著 楊 博 士 的 離 去 , 本 會 失 去 了一 位 對 濕 地 保 育 極 具 承 擔 的 專 業 人 士 , 但 楊 博 士 所 建 立 的 團 隊 , 在新 上 任 的 米 埔 保 護 區 經 理 和 米 埔 中 心 經 理 的 帶 領 下 , 會 繼 續 本 會 的濕 地 保 育 工 作 。米 埔 自 然 保 護 區 的 運 作 , 有 賴 「 香 港 觀 鳥 大 賽 」 籌 募 的 善 款 支持 。2008 年 度 的 觀 鳥 大 賽 共 有 14 支 觀 鳥 隊 伍 參 加 。 本 會 感 謝 眾 多 隊伍 贊 助 者 、 活 動 贊 助 商 及 捐 款 人 士 的 支 持 , 使 本 年 度 的 大 賽 得 以 圓滿 舉 行 , 並 為 保 護 區 未 來 的 工 作 , 包 括 發 展 教 育 及 研 究 工 作 , 提 供更 多 支 持 。本 會 並 於 2007 年 推 出 全 新 的 「 濕 地 生 態 學 家 」 網 上 學 習 網 站 ,作 為 米 埔 學 校 考 察 計 劃 的 一 部 分 。 網 站 得 以 順 利 推 出 , 實 有 賴 利 銘澤 黃 瑤 璧 慈 善 基 金 慷 慨 贊 助 。 學 生 於 參 觀 米 埔 前 後 登 入 網 站 學 習 平台 , 可 增 加 了 解 本 會 生 態 學 家 的 工 作 , 並 明 白 保 護 區 內 保 育 措 施 的重 要 性 。保 護 濕 地 環 境 對 維 持 健 康 的 生 態 系 統 非 常 重 要 。 本 會 透 過 持 續於 米 埔 推 行 保 育 工 作 , 以 及 於 華 南 的 夥 伴 保 護 區 展 開 新 保 育 項 目 ,為 數 以 百 萬 計 遷 徙 至 區 內 的 禽 鳥 , 提 供 更 好 的 棲 息 環 境 。 隨 著 中 國境 內 獲 新 確 認 的 「 拉 姆 薩 爾 濕 地 」, 本 會 將 繼 續 朝 此 方 向 , 進 一 步推 動 濕 地 保 育 工 作 。淡 水 資 源 對 許 多 野 生 生 物 都 十 分重 要 。Freshwater resources are vitalto many wildlife populations.funds raised through the Big Bird Race. The 2008 race saw14 different teams competing and thanks to the many teamsponsors, event sponsors and general donors, this year’s racewas another great success and will help support future work atthe reserve – including the expansion of its educational andresearch programmes.2007 also saw the launch of a new “Wetland Ecologist”e-learning website as part of the Mai Po School VisitProgramme. The creation of the site was made possible by adonation from the Drs. Richard Charles and Esther YewpickLee Charitable Foundation. By using the website both beforeand after their visit to Mai Po, students are able to develop anappreciation for the work done by WWF’s ecologists and theimportance of the conservation measures at the reserve.Protecting wetlands is vital to ensuring a healthy, robustecosystem. Through our continued work at Mai Po and newprogrammes with our partner reserves in southern China, weare making a difference for the millions of birds that migratethrough the region.
