9.0 THE PILLARS OF THE SCHOOL
9.1 English and Spanish Languages
Living in Spain and following a British Education, there is still the possibility of combining both Secondary
Spanish certificates: “Graduado en Educación Secundaria” and “Bachillerato”, and with this possibility at Laude
San Pedro, students have an extraordinary opportunity. Although the main teaching language is English, we
are committed to promoting Spanish throughout the school. Alongside the British Curriculum which includes
Spanish MFL, the school also offers the Spanish Curriculum for native/fluent Spanish speakers.
9.2 Values
We want to work alongside each family to ensure that our students grow up with a set of values that will serve
them well in their future lives. Education in values is not a separate lesson but forms part of the “hidden
curriculum” which is delivered through all subjects and all areas, throughout everything we do. Laude San
Pedro is a growing community of shakers and movers, and we aim to provide a wide range of activities and
events in which students can immerse themselves and explore their potential. A regular Student Council will
also serve to help us build the values of the school, through the students themselves taking an active part in
reflecting on what we do well, and what can be done to further development of values.
9.3 Information and Communication Technology
We know how important it is to provide our students with good ICT skills. The Secondary School possesses
two fully equipped Computer Suites as well as computers in our beautiful Library. Students throughout the
school are encouraged to use computers for research and Secondary students are able to sit IGCSE, AS and A
Level examinations in ICT and Applied ICT.
9.4 Sports
Physical Education is fundamental to our overall development. Through PE lessons, students’ awareness of
sport in general is developed, together with an understanding of the importance of a healthy life style and
diet. Sport plays a central role within the school’s House system, nurturing a sense of competitiveness and
team spirit of the best kind.
For these reasons it is important that all students participate in PE lessons, unless there is a very good reason
for not doing so. Parents are asked to write a note to the PE teacher in their child’s school diary if he or she is
not taking part in a PE lesson for any reason, detailing the reason.
FINALLY…
This handbook is not a complete view of all that is accomplished in any typical school day; as parents, you are
the most vital ingredient in the success of your child, and in the success of our school. We encourage you to
give feedback on this handbook, in order that we might develop its contents for everyone’s benefit. We
encourage you to come and see us whenever you have a spare moment, or whenever we advertise events
that would benefit from your participation. You will always be very welcome!
Thank you,
