2.0 SCHOOL INFORMATION
‘The administration of the child embodies certain norms about their capabilities from
which the child can become self-governing and self-reliant’
(Popkewitz, 1998)
2.1 Beginning of School Year
In the Secondary School our academic year 2010-2011 begins on Wednesday 1st September. On the 30th and
31 st August the school will be open from 10.00am until 12.00pm for students and their parents who wish to
come in to meet their teachers. These mornings are optional, non-uniform days and are designed to facilitate
the general return to school on Wednesday. We all look forward to welcoming you!
2.2 The School Day
The School Day is from 8.50 to 16.15.
The School is officially opens from 8.30am. Students should then proceed directly to the red playground and,
from 8.45am, may enter the Main Building to access their lockers.
Students register with their tutors at 8.50am. Those arriving after 8.50am will be marked absent and need to
sign in at Reception and inform their tutors that they are in school.
It is important that your child, or children, make the most of their time at school. This means regular
attendance and punctuality, habits that in the future will be valued by other educational estabilishments and
employers. The beginning of the day is when announcements are made that have impact on the whole school
community, and we look forward to every students being fully informed, in order to contribute fully and
valuably to the growth of the school.
If your child is ill, please telephone 952.799.900 or email the office info@laudesanpedro.com to let us know.
2.3 Absences
Parents have a legal responsibility to make sure their children attend school regularly.
Attendance is a key part of ensuring improved attainment and positive life outcomes. In the UK, the
Department for Children, Schools and Families recommends that the minimum requirement for attendance
should be 93%. Attainment is central to social inclusion and has a major impact on a child’s future
opportunities. Attendance, attainment and attitude are all key to raising standards in any school, and
improving the aspirations of young people.
The primary responsibility for ensuring that children and young people attend school regularly rests with
parents and carers. Promoting attendance and tackling non-attendance is the responsibility of the school, as is
the creation of personalized learning and the creation of an environment in which young people want to
engage. Parents and the school must work together robustly to ensure each student’s maximum attendance.
