Term-time holidays are a particular contributory factor to non-attendance. Our school’s expectation is that students only miss school when it is absolutely unavoidable; letters from parents explaining absences due to sickness should be addressed to the tutor. Should it be absolutely necessary to take your child out of school during term time, please make your formal written request to Rhian Saadat (r.saadat@laudesanpedro.com) stating the dates and reason for the absence. Each request will be considered individually, taking into account the following criteria: � Personal circumstances of the request � Age of student � Overall attendance of student � The time of year holiday is proposed and whether it impacts on specific curricular or community issues � The student’s stage of education and general progress. Approval for any absence can be given by the school for up to ten days in any school year, and is discretionary. Any leave of absence cannot be granted retrospectively and any absence without permission will therefore be recorded as unauthorized. Students absent more than 15% of the school year will progress to the following year at the Head’s discretion. 2.4 Truancy If you have any suspicion that your son or daughter is not attending school please contact the school immediately. Promoting school attendance is paramount in ensuring the importance of education. 2.5 Parking Parents are requested to observe the municipal signs and regulations regarding parking and waiting outside school. For safety reasons, you must not enter the school bus parking area and or park in double lines outside the school. Please drive extremely slowly and carefully when in the vicinity of the school. 2.6 Change of Arrangements or Personal Details It is important for your child’s safety that you inform us of any change in their pick-up or school transport arrangements. Please inform Reception in plenty of time, either by telephone, in writing or by email. If there is any change to your address, email or telephone number, please ensure that the office is informed. It may be necessary to contact you urgently, in the case of illness or injury, so mobile phone numbers and emergency contact phone numbers should also be made available to the school and be kept updated. 2.7 Daily Timetable Years 7 – 13 08.55 – 09.05 Registration 09.05 – 09.55 Period 1 09.55 – 10.45 Period 2 10.45 – 11.35 Period 3 11.35 – 11.55 Break 11.55 – 12.45 Period 4 1.45 – 1.35 Period 5 1.35 – 2.35 Lunch 2.35 – 3.25 Period 6 3.25 – 4.15 Period 7 2.8 Code of Conduct Everyone will act with courtesy and consideration. We should always: o Respect each other in and out of school. o Wear our uniform with pride at all times. o Develop open-mindedness in consideration of another point of view. o Speak politely. 4
o Move quietly and safely around school. o Arrive on time and behave appropriately. o Respect the property of others at all times. o Keep ourselves and the school tidy. o Behave in a manner that brings credit to ourselves, our families and our school. o Work hard and with serious reflection for all that we do.. o Take an active part in the wider life of the school. Together with familiarity of the school’s ethos, we will require all <strong>secondary</strong> students to sign contracts for the safe and appropriate use of both the Internet and Science facilties. 2.9 School House System The school has a vertical House system and many interschool activities are planned throughout the year, in order to involve and cater for as many students as possible (Sports, Maths Day, Red Nose, Enterprise Day, etc). The four Houses are: All students are allocated to a House and receive house points for positive contributions to the school, through their hard work, and participation in a wide range of activities. The school aims to recognize excellence in all its forms, and to include effort and progress, as well as persistent brilliance! 2.10 School Charity As part of the school’s desire to involve students actively in the community, some activities during the year aim to raise money for charity. Our chosen charities will be announced later in the year. 3.0 SERVICES 3.1 Dining Hall All students have their lunch cooked freshly on the premises by experienced catering staff. There is one sitting in the dining hall, for years 7 to 13 from 13.35 to 14.35. School Lunches consist of three-course nutritious and well-balanced menus. A vegetarian option is available and students requiring this option must inform the School Nurse at the start of the school year. The monthly menu appears on our website www.laudesanpedro.com and is updated every month once it has been approved by the Menu Committee which parents are welcome to attend. Please see dates in the school calendar. 3.2 Transport Students using school transport are accompanied by a Monitor provided by the coach company. If you are interested in using this service, information about routes and timetables is available from the office. 3.3 Books and Materials Students are provided with all their books and most of the materials they will need. There will be a charge to replace lost books and school diaries. All textbooks must be returned at the end of the school year or a fee will be charged. 3.4 Illnesses / Rules and Advice It is normal that students will, from time to time, contract viral, bacterial or other illnesses. In cases where the possibility of contagion exists, the affected student must not attend school, for their own sake and for that of classmates. A doctor’s letter is required. 5
