Gibson, K.C., LL.D.,1whose services to the province of Ontario, first as a cabinetminister and later as Lieutenant-Governor, and to his owncity of Hamilton as a leader in financial and industrial enterprise,are well known, was elected in March, 1909, to succeedMr. Warren. At the next annual meeting, Messrs. WilliamMcMaster 2 of Montreal, and Robert Stuart 3 of Chicago, joinedthe Board, and Mr. Z. A. Lash, K.C., LL.D., succeededMr. Robert Kilgour as vice-president. During the followingyear Mr. George F. Gait 4 of Winnipeg was chosen to fill thevacancy caused by the death of Mr. James Crathern, wholThc Hon. Sir John Morison Gibson, K.C.M.G.. K.C.. LL.D. (b. 1842), was borain the township of Toronto, county of Peel, Ontario, and is by profession a barrister.He entered public life in 1879 as member for West Hamilton in the local legislature.He held office as Provincial Secretary of Ontario from 1889 to 1896; Commissioner ofCrown Lands from 1896 to 1899; and Attorney-General from 1899 to 1905. From thatdate until 1908 he was a member of the Government without portfolio. In 1905 hewas appointed Lieutenant-Governor of Ontario and held this office until 1914. He haslong taken a deep interest in military affairs and holds the rank of Brigadier-Generalin the Canadian militia. He is vice-president of the Toronto General Trusts Corporation,president of the National Steel Car Company, Hamilton, and a director of manyother <strong>com</strong>panies.2William McMaster (b. 1851) was bora in Montreal. He began his businesscareer in the employ of Morland, Watson and Company, and was later transferred tothe Montreal Rolling Mills Company. He is a director of the Bank of Montreal,president of Canadian Explosives, Limited, vice-presidentof the Dominion SteelCorporation, Limited, and director in numerous other <strong>com</strong>panies.'Robert Stuart (b. 1852) is a native of Ingersoll, Ont. Going to the WesternStates, he settled at Cedar Rapids, Iowa, in 1872, and became one of the foundersof the American Cereal Company, which was reorganized in 1906 as the Quaker OatsCompany. The latter operates large mills at Akron, Ohio; Cedar Rapids, Iowa;Chicago; Battle Creek, Mich.; Peterboro, Ont.; Saskatoon, Sask., and elsewhere.Mr. Stuart is treasurer of the <strong>com</strong>pany. He is also a director of the Canada LifeAssurance Company. For some years he was president of the American ExchangeNational Bank of Chicago.HJeorge Frederick Gait (b. 1855), son of the late Chief Justice Sir Thomas Gait,is a native of Toronto. He went to Winnipeg in 1882, and entered into partnershipwith his cousin, John Gait; under the firm name of G. F. and J. Gait, now G. F. andJ. Gait, Limited, of which Mr. G. F. Gait is president. During the war he served as amember of the Canadian Government War Purchasing Commission. He is alsothe Northern Trusts Company, and vice-president of the Great Westpresident ofLife Assurance Company, Winnipeg. He was president of the Winnipeg Board ofTrade 1888-89.
