Foster, K.C., 2 and Charles Colby, M.A.,Ph.D., 3 were elected to the Board immediately after theamalgamation took place, in accordance with the arrangementsmade the previous January. Steps were also taken for theformation at Sherbrooke of a local advisory Board for theprovince of Quebec, the members of which were chosen fromamong the former directors of the Eastern Townships Bank,Messrs. Farwell and Stevens being members of both thegeneral and local Boards. A stock register was opened atSherbrooke for the convenience of the former shareholders ofthe Eastern Townships Bank, who had now be<strong>com</strong>e shareholdersof The Canadian Bank of Commerce; but after a yearor so its continuance was found unnecessary and it was transferredto Montreal on May 31,1915, and consolidated withthe register already existing in that city.During a political campaign which took place early in1912 false charges were made and circulated against theCanadian banks with regard to the loans which they wereaccustomed to make in New York. As the periodical revisionof the Bank Act was then approaching, it was deemed advisableto place the facts of the situation before the public, and anarticle on the subject by the president of the bank, Sir Edmund1Alfred Cornelius Flumerfelt (b. 1856) is a native of Markham, Ont. He enteredthe wholesale boot and shoe business in Cobourg b 1875, and removed to Winnipegfour years later. In 1886 he went to Victoria, B.C., as branch manager for AmesHolden and Company of Montreal. Since 1900 he has been engaged in mining He ispresident of the Granby Consolidated Mining, Smelting and Power Company, Limited,the Hastings Shingle Manufacturing Company, etc., and a director of numerous other<strong>com</strong>panies. He served for a number of years as a member of the city council ofVictoria, B.C., and also as president of the Board of Trade of that city.The Hon. George Green Foster, K.C. (b. 1860), is a native of Knowlton, P.Q..and was educated at McGill University. He was called to the bar in 1881 and made aKing's Counsel in 1896. He b head of the firm of Foster, Mann, Place, Mackinnon,Hackett, Malvena and Brais, Montreal. He is president of the Stanstead, Sheffordand Chambly Railway, vice-president of the Montreal Tramways Company, and adirector of many other <strong>com</strong>panies. He was called to the Senate b 1917.Charles William Colby, Ph.D., LL.D. (b. 1867), is a native of Stanstead, P.Q.,and was educated at McGill University, taking a post-graduate course at HarvardUniversity. He was for many years professor of history in McGill University. He ispresident of the Noiseless Typewriter Company.
