256 HISTORY OF THE BANKthis information in his review of general conditions at theannual meeting.By March, 1912, the ac<strong>com</strong>modation afforded by the headoffice building had be<strong>com</strong>e so cramped and insufficient that anumber of the departments were forced to rent quarterselsewhere, and arrangements were made to acquire by leaseor purchase the adjoining properties westward on King Streetas far as the building of the Quebec Bank, now owned by theBank of Nova Scotia. The property extends in the rear toMelinda Street and its acquisition gave the bank a site witha frontage of 151 feet on King Street and a depth of about 168feet, on which it is proposed in the near future to erect anew head office building. In the meantime the old buildingshave almost all been adapted to the use of the bank.In June, 1912, there occurred at Regina a cyclone ofunusual intensity, which did great damage in the city, crushingmany buildings inthe path of the storm and causing muchThe bank subscribedfund raised for the sufferers.loss of life and devastation to property.the sum of $5,000 to the reliefLater in the year a similar sum was subscribed to the KingEdward Memorial Fund of the National Sanitarium Association,to be used to endow a bed to be known as The CanadianBank of Commerce bed.At the annual meeting in January, 1913, the number ofthe directors was increased from nineteen to twenty-two, andMessrs. George W. Allan,1H. J. Fuller 2 and Frank P. Jones 8were the new men chosen. In October Mr. William McMasterretired from the Board and the vacancy thus occasioned wasnot filled. Instead, steps were taken at the ensuing annualKJeorge William Allan, K.C. (b. 1860), is a native of Toronto. He was educatedat Upper Canada College and Trinity University. He is senior partner of the legalfirm of Munson, Allan, Laird, Davis, Haffner and Hobkirk, and Munson, Allan,Loader, Patton and Machines. He is a director of the Great West Life AssuranceCompany, the Canada Permanent Mortgage Corporation, the Canada Cement Company,and many other concerns. In 1917 he was elected to the House of Commonsaa member for South Winnipeg.Henry Jones Fuller (b. 1874) is a native of Worcester, Mass. He is president andgeneral manager of the Canadian Fairbanks-Morse Company, Limited, a director ofseveral allied <strong>com</strong>panies and of the Canadian Consolidated Rubber Company. He was
