At the annual meeting in January,1919, it was announced by the general manager, Sir John Aird,that as the Rest had now reached a sum equal to the paid-upcapital, it was proposed in future to make the regular dividendtwelve per cent, per annum. At the same meeting the numberof directors was increased from nineteen to twenty-two, andthe new seats were filled by the election of Messrs. ThomasFindley, 1 president and general manager of the Massey-Harris Company, Limited, Toronto; William W. Hutchison,2vice-president of the Lake of the Woods Milling Company,Limited, Montreal; and Hugh Russell Silver, 3 of H. R. Silver,For some time there had been in existenceLimited, Halifax.a special standing <strong>com</strong>mittee of the Board, which could becalled into consultation by the general manager at any time,and at this meeting of the shareholders the <strong>com</strong>mittee wasrecognized by the by-laws and provision made for the remunerationof its members. The by-laws of the bank, which hadfrequently been amended in various particulars, until theamendments had be<strong>com</strong>e rather too numerous for convenientThomas Findley (1870-1921) was born at Bond Lake in the county of York.Ontario. He entered the service of the Massey-Harris Company, Limited, in 1890,and rose to be vice-president and general manager. He was also a director of theNational Trust Company, Limited, and associated with a number of other <strong>com</strong>paniesclosely connected with the Massey-Harris Company, Limited.William Watson Hutchison (b. 1865) is a native of Montreal. He started hisbusiness career in the employ of Messrs. Ogilvie and Hutchison, flour millers ofGoderich, Ont. In 1882 he entered the service of Messrs. A. W. Ogilvie andCompany, millers, of Montreal, and two years later went to Winnipeg in the employof the Ogilvie Milling Company. In 1897 he joined the staff of the Lake of the WoodsMilling Company, opening their Toronto office; in 1904 he was made eastern managerof the Company, with headquarters in Montreal. He was elected a director in 1905and vice-president in 1910. He is also a director of the Keewatin Flour Mills Company,the Sunset Manufacturing Company, and the New Brunswick Railway Company.He has served as treasurer of the Montreal Board of Trade, and during thewar acted first as a member, and later as chairman, of the Millers' Committee ofCanada under the Food Board.'Hugh Russell Silver (b. 1867) is a native of Lunenburg, N.S. He is presidentof H. R. Silver Limited, Halifax, export and import merchants. He is also a directorof the Eastern Trust Company, Halifax, and serves on the Board of Directors ofseveral other <strong>com</strong>panies.
