<strong>Feasibility</strong> <strong>Study</strong> <strong>for</strong> a <strong>National</strong> <strong>Domestic</strong> <strong>Biogas</strong> <strong>Programme</strong> Burk<strong>in</strong>a Faso<br />

expand<strong>in</strong>g susta<strong>in</strong>able markets, smarter subsidies, and greater attention to social<br />

benefits and <strong>in</strong>come generation. 3<br />

Chapter 1 of the presented <strong>Feasibility</strong> <strong>Study</strong> resumes the current situation <strong>in</strong> Burk<strong>in</strong>a<br />

Faso under social aspects, water and energy issues, agricultural and livestock sector<br />

activities, sanitation and, last but not least, environmental topics.<br />

Chapter 2 is dedicated to the history of biogas technology <strong>in</strong> Burk<strong>in</strong>a Faso, <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g<br />

research and implementation steps.<br />

Chapter 3 analysis the technical feasibility of currently available biogas digester<br />

designs <strong>for</strong> standardization and massive dissem<strong>in</strong>ation <strong>in</strong> the context of Burk<strong>in</strong>a<br />

Faso. Review<strong>in</strong>g all potential client groups, the estimated total market size achieves<br />

more than 100.000 biogas plants to be build until 2030 (conservative scenario).<br />

Apply<strong>in</strong>g optimistic criteria <strong>for</strong> the estimation of the potential <strong>Biogas</strong> Market size,<br />

200.000 plants could be <strong>in</strong> operation until 2030.<br />

Chapter 4 presents the outl<strong>in</strong>e of a <strong>National</strong> <strong>Domestic</strong> <strong>Biogas</strong> Program. With<strong>in</strong> the<br />

four basic chapters of the program, potential partners and strategic alliances are<br />

presented; these long lists of supporters at any level of society demonstrate clearly<br />

that a <strong>National</strong> <strong>Biogas</strong> Program is more than requested. It <strong>in</strong>cludes a graph<br />

presentation of the expected impact cha<strong>in</strong>.<br />

Chapter 5 summarizes the conclusions, the <strong>in</strong>ternational and <strong>in</strong>ter-<strong>in</strong>stitutional <strong>Study</strong><br />

Team has also discussed with the participants of the stakeholder workshop <strong>in</strong> April<br />

2007 <strong>in</strong> Ouagadougou.<br />

A second volume provides additional <strong>in</strong><strong>for</strong>mation as separated attachments which<br />

could be important <strong>for</strong> the implementation step of the programme - like maps,<br />

calculations, sketches, list of resource persons, <strong>in</strong>stitutions, bibliographical resources<br />

considered dur<strong>in</strong>g the study, and pictures taken dur<strong>in</strong>g the mission <strong>in</strong> 2007.<br />
