Technical Support Activities• Award of a framework contract to support thecharacterisation of magnets materials;Test Blanket Modules• Award of a grant for the design and constructionof a multipurpose laboratory scale apparatus forinvestigating hydrogen isotopes properties inPbLi and permeation technology;• Award and completion of a grant for the studyof the impact caused by the implementation ofmitigation means for ITER TF TBM-induced rippleon TBMs design & test objectives;• Completion of a grant for the upgrade of theDIADEMO PbLi/Helium test facility.The information presented above and in the followingis complemented by Annex II which describes theimplementation of the 2010 Work Programme (WP2010).Magnet SystemsF4E is responsible for the in-kind procurement of theToroidal Field Magnets, the Poloidal Field Magnetsand the pre-compression rings.Toroidal Field MagnetsIn 2010 the first phase of full industrial implementationbegan. Progress in accordance with the WP 2010 hasbeen achieved as follows:• Signature of the contract for Manufacturing often Toroidal Field Winding Packs in July 2010(F4E-OPE-053) and related activities includingthe definition of the supplier schedule, and thesupport to the supplier in drafting the technicalspecifications for the main tools (e.g. furnaceand winding line – Fig. 5) and the manufacturingfacility.• Implementation of the procurement contract forthe Full scale prototype of the Side Radial Plate(F4E-OPE-016-01) was an important activityduring 2010 that required the implementationof corrective actions for the manufacturingprocedure. Satisfactory tolerances have beenreached on both types of mock-ups produced sofar. By end-2010, the manufacturing equipmentand procedures for the final prototype realisationwere close to their finalisation.• Implementation of the procurement contractfor the Radial Plates full scale prototype(F4E-OPE-016-03) proceeded and the mainmanufacturing processes (welding, machining,dimensional checks and their qualification) weredeveloped and the development, procurementFig. 5: The winding line for the Double Pancakes (courtesy of ASG)26
