Fig. 28: Ion source and RF chain on HV platformIFMIF/EVEDA ProgrammeWith the Project Team reaching its full operationalsize, the quality management of the PAs has beenbrought up to maturity compliant with the progressin having the PAs for Engineering Validation taskssigned and the Engineering Design activities started.Given the increased certainty about the availableman power and financial resources in the IFMIF/EVEDA, a rescoped Project Plan was worked out byall parties involved and agreed by the BA SteeringCommittee at its meeting on 15 December 2010 inMadrid. In essence, it reinforces the activities for thecommissioning and initial operation of the acceleratorprototype at the BA site in Rokkasho till 2017 andfocuses the Engineering Design activities towards theproduction of an Engineering Design Report by end-2013 on the basis of a consistent Preliminary Design. With regard to the accelerator prototype theconstruction of all its different components isprogressing. The Injector is being assembled atits test stage at CEA Saclay (see Fig. 28) with thelocal control system development is in progress forthe general Injector subsystem, which will allow thebeam tests in the coming March allowing its deliveryto Rokkasho in 2012.The PAs for the all major subsystems of the acceleratorprototype are now signed, including the ones for theRF Quadrupole and the High Power RF system. Forthe key elements of the RF quadrupole, i.e. the highprecision modules, the tools necessary both for theinternal construction and for the verification of theparts commissioned to industry have been proven. With the aluminum full size mock-up, the bead pullingmeasurements have been concluded, showing thevalidity of our tuning algorithms for such a longstructure (see Fig. 29). As first components of theSRF Linac, two prototypes of the superconductingHalf-Wave Resonators (HWR) were delivered toCEA in September and October 2010. One of theseprototypes (P01) has been conditioned by chemicaltreatments and high pressure rinsing (see Fig. 30).The quality factor of this resonator, estimated frominitial RF tests, is about 1.4×109 in fulfillment of therequirements.ANNUAL REPORT 2010 FUSION FOR ENERGY45
