It was shown on the1st edition OS map and the cottage adjoining was deemed too ruinousto merit listing. As previously described above, but this site wasabandoned and collapsing at the time of the survey.46 BAILE Fieldwalking NF 9314 8138 Non-designated BUILDING 18th-20th C Poor Monitor A small stone building to the S of site 52 was recorded during thecurrent survey. It measured c.4m by c.10m and c.2m high, and waspositioned on the very edge of the coast. It was roofless and wasprobably originally an outhouse to site 52.47 BERNERAY OS 1st ed. NF 9320 8137 Non-designated BUILDING 18th-20th C Fair Nil Two roofed buildings were depicted on the 1st edition OS map. Therewere two buildings recorded at this location. One was a ruinousbuilding, rectangular in plan, the other had been reconstructed and wasa whitewashed blackhouse with a thatched roof. It was shown on the 1st edition OS map. As described above,this building was white-washed and appeared to be a private residenceat the time of the current survey.18th-20th C Poor Monitor An alignment of stones was visible running into the water and curvinground to the east. This may have been a fish trap, otherwise it mayhave been an artificial harbour which utilised the natural bedrock aswell as the stone alignment.NMRS NF 9325 8150 Non-designated FARMSTEAD 18th-20th C Fair Nil A farmstead comprising eight roofed buildings and three enclosureswas depicted on the 1st edition OS map. Five roofed, two unroofedbuildings and four enclosures are shown on the current OS map. Alarge modern building with a small stone built farmstead to the northoccupied this location though it appeared that only the large building iswithin 100m of the HWM.51 BAILE APs NF 9331 8148 Non-designated ENCLOSURE Unknown Poor Monitor An enclosure was visible on an AP dating from 1946. This enclosurewas visible on the ground as a very low, ephemeral, stone and turfbank.52 BERNERAY OS 1st ed.
