The findings reviewedin this publication are based not only on their contributions but alsoon interviews with a wide variety of persons who shared their knowledge andinsights with the grateful members of the project group. We consulted dozensof experts in the private sector, at universities and research institutes, and ingovernment in the Netherlands and elsewhere who are involved in some wayor another in migration, integration and labour market issues. Representativesof the Cities of Amsterdam and Rotterdam also kindly agreed to be interviewedby the project group. The interviews produced exceptionally useful knowledgeand information. Our thanks also goes to the participants – the researchers, decision-makers andpoliticians – who attended three meetings held in the first half of 2012, as didmost of the authors of this publication. The meetings covered recent labourmarket trends, the pattern of migration in Europe, and the relevant policyissues related to labour migration and the integration of labour migrants. We would also like to express our thanks to High Tech Campus Eindhoven, the Eemshaven and the Rotterdam Port Authorities for their warm reception, guided tours and information. Our international working visits and contactsin the United Kingdom, Australia, Denmark, Sweden, Germany and of courseBrussels also led to many new insights. We are grateful to all these organisationsand their staff for their assistance.Within the context of this project, we also asked the independent researchagency Regioplan to update its 2005 study Poolshoogte: onderzoek naar juridischeconstructies en kostenvoordelen bij het inzetten van arbeidskrachten indrie sectoren. The update was made possible by the wrr in cooperation withthe Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations and the Ministry of SocialAffairs and Employment. We would like to thank both ministries for supportingthis study.
