Other structural plywood stress grades andthicknesses are available and alternate stress grade/thickness combinations can be designed for andspecified. Structural plywood is assumed to be a minimum of two span continuous.*To be determined but not less than the given valueTABLE 7.1: Summary of AS/NZS 1170.1 Floor Live Loads & Suitable Structural Plywood Thickness7.8 Engineered Flooring SystemAn engineered floor system for residential applications, utilising structural plywood and either LVL orseasoned pine joists and bearers has been developed as a cost competitive, viable alternative toconcrete slab on ground floors, and the traditional unseasoned hardwood bearer and joist flooringsystem. Full details of the floor system are given in the design manual LP91 Low Profile Stressed SkinPlywood Floor System which is a free download from the EWPAA website. This cost and performanceoptimised structural plywood platform floor system is designed with joists and bearers in the same horizontalplane. The structural plywood flooring is then glued and nailed to the subfloor members to developcomposite action and achieve maximum structural and material efficiency. Maximum grid supportspacings of 3.6m x 3.6m are achievable using LVL for the bearer and joist elements, making this floorsystem particularly suitable for the upper floors of two or more storey buildings.7.9 Structural Laminated Veneer Lumber (LVL) and LVL /Plywood I-BeamsStructural LVL and LVL/Plywood I-Beams are used as joists and bearers in both residential, commercialand industrial flooring applications. These engineered beams have the advantages of beingdimensionally uniform and straight, lightweight, available in long lengths and possessing uniform,consistent and reliable structural properties.60
