cloth. A bit <strong>of</strong> darkening toward the edges and one mark to spine, else about fine in a<br />

chipped and spine darkened example <strong>of</strong> the dust jacket, with some heavy wear to the spine<br />

and edges, mended with tape. One <strong>of</strong> 1381 numbered copies signed by Cummings in the<br />

entire edition, a number determined by prepublication orders. Cummings’s experimental<br />

journal <strong>of</strong> his visit to the Soviet Union. $500<br />

frontispiece by Ben Shahn; maroon cloth stamped in silver. Spine lightly rubbed, else fine,<br />

without the uncommon dust jacket. <strong>The</strong> scenario for a ballet based on Uncle Tom’s Cabin.<br />

This is a presentation copy, inscribed by Cummings in 1955 on the first leaf to Elizabetth<br />

Kray, co-founder (with Stanley Kunitz) <strong>of</strong> Poet’s House in New York. In addition,<br />

Cummings has penned the following disclaimer on the title page, with arrow pointing at<br />

Shahn’s frontispiece: “not my fault.” $500<br />
