edition. Single leaf, folded once to make four pages. A privately printed Christmas greeting
card, printed in black and red and illustrated with woodcuts on each page. Masefield has
inscribed this copy at the end of the poem to H. W. Nevinson, the journalist and writer,
author of a book about Masefield. The inscription reads: “To H.W. Nevinson, with greetings
from the old firm, Christmas 1923” and refers in all likelihood to the Manchester Guardian,
where Nevinson was an editor for many years and for which Masefield occasionally wrote in
the 1890s. A scarce item with a meaningful association.
