“To John & Ada Galsworthy from John Masefield.” A good association copy <strong>of</strong> this book, <strong>of</strong><br />

edition. Single leaf, folded once to make four pages. A privately printed Christmas greeting<br />

card, printed in black and red and illustrated with woodcuts on each page. Masefield has<br />

inscribed this copy at the end <strong>of</strong> the poem to H. W. Nevinson, the journalist and writer,<br />

author <strong>of</strong> a book about Masefield. <strong>The</strong> inscription reads: “To H.W. Nevinson, with greetings<br />

from the old firm, Christmas 1923” and refers in all likelihood to the Manchester Guardian,<br />

where Nevinson was an editor for many years and for which Masefield occasionally wrote in<br />

the 1890s. A scarce item with a meaningful association.<br />
