edition. Broadside poem, measuring 29.5 X 12.5 CM on card stock, illustrated. One<br />
horizontal crease in the bottom third, some general rumpling. One <strong>of</strong> an undoubtedly small<br />
number <strong>of</strong> copies <strong>of</strong> this scarce, unrecorded printing probably done up as a Christmas card<br />
for the poet. <strong>The</strong> illustration is initialed “B.R.,” likely the poet’s wife Beatrice. This copy<br />
has been inscribed on the front: “Happy New Year! to <strong>Marie</strong> <strong>Bullock</strong> from <strong>The</strong>odore<br />
Roethke.” On the verso, Roethke has written a letter to Mrs. <strong>Bullock</strong>: “Will be in town with<br />
pulchritudinous frau, for the <strong>Poetry</strong> Society <strong>of</strong> America shindig, Jan. 18, will give you a<br />
buzz, T.R. Ancient news: Marianne Moore and I (two raging Presbyterians) were given the<br />
Award <strong>of</strong> the Golden Plate by the Academy <strong>of</strong> Achievement, Monterey, California. No<br />
novelists, One painter: Thomas Hart Benton, [one] sculptor: Adolph Bloch, 52 Americans, 10<br />
foreigners in all — mostly scientists, business men.” $1,500
