nicked, fine. One <strong>of</strong> an unspecified but small number <strong>of</strong> copies <strong>of</strong> this poem, printed for<br />

private distribution. Smith has inscribed this copy on the front, signed “Bill.” $75<br />

printed on three sides. A bit <strong>of</strong> rumpling, else fine. One <strong>of</strong> a small number <strong>of</strong> copies printed<br />

on the occasion <strong>of</strong> Smith’s sixtieth birthday at his wife’s behest. <strong>The</strong> texts are the result <strong>of</strong><br />

an ongoing exchange between the two poets: as neighbors in Cummington, Massachusetts,<br />

they enjoyed a game in which the first one to arrive at the local store on Sunday for the New<br />

York Times would compose some spontaneous lines <strong>of</strong> verse on the other’s paper. Some <strong>of</strong><br />

the results are published here. Smith has inscribed and signed this copy (“Bill”) for Mrs.<br />
