Executive committeeThe executive committee (excom) is appointed by the Chief Executive. It comprises theChief Financial Officer, divisional managing directors and directors of group functions. Its purposeis to support the Chief Executive in carrying out the duties delegated to him by the board. In thatcontext, excom co-ordinates brand and operational execution and delivers strategic plans andbudgets for the board’s consideration. Prior tothis, she held a number of seniorroles in UK companies, includingDirector of Corporate Affairs,Railtrack Group from 2000 to2003 and Director of CorporateAffairs, Scottish Power plc from1996 to 2000.John Davidson joined the groupas General Counsel and GroupCompany Secretary in 2006.Before joining the group, hespent his entire legal career atLovells, a leading internationallaw firm, where he had beena partner since 1991. He hasworked on numerous projectsfor SABMiller since Lovells wasfirst appointed as the group’sprincipal UK legal adviser in1998, including the Londonlisting in 1999, the Miller,Peroni and Bavaria Grouptransactions, and variousbond and equity financings.Nick Fell was appointedMarketing Director, SABMiller plcin 2006. Prior to this, he workedfor Cadbury Schweppes Plc, asPresident, Global CommercialStrategy and also as Directorof Marketing, Cadbury TreborBassett. Should theMillerCoors Joint Venture receiveregulatory approval it is proposedthat he will become Presidentand Chief Commercial Officerof the company.Ari Mervis was appointedManaging Director of SABMillerAsia in October 2007. He joinedABI (now the Soft Drinks Divisionof SAB Ltd) in 1989 and has helda number of senior positions inthe organisation. These includeManaging Director of Appletiserand Managing Director ofSABMiller’s operations in Russiaand Australia.Johann Nel was appointedHuman Resources Director,SABMiller plc in 2002. He joinedSAB Ltd in 1997 and wasappointed Human ResourcesDirector in 1998. He previouslyowned a consulting organisation,and had worked with SAB Ltdon various major strategy,organisational development andhuman resources projects since1988. He has co-authored abook on managing productivechange in organisations andwas involved in initiatives toencourage business involvementin the democratisation of SouthAfrica in the 1980s and 1990s.Barry Smith was appointedPresident, SABMiller Latin Americain 2007 and prior to this he wasPresident, SABMiller SouthAmerica from 2005. He joinedSAB Ltd in 1984 and has helda number of senior positionsin the group.
